As your little one turns one, they can start enjoying the same meals as you. This transition varies for each child - some adapt quickly, others may prefer purées longer, and some progress steadily. Every baby is unique. Various factors like teething, growth spurts, or starting daycare can significantly influence your child's willingness to try new foods.

Children's attitudes towards food differ greatly. Some eat slowly, others enthusiastically, and some prefer familiar foods while others are adventurous eaters. Genetic, evolutionary, and developmental factors also play a role in your child's eating behaviour. For instance, if your baby's teeth emerge later, around 12 months, they may struggle with foods that require biting.

This period is crucial for fostering a positive food environment. Eating together at a table without distractions, savouring meals, and discussing food can spark your baby's interest in new flavors, even if it takes multiple attempts. These experiences shape lifelong attitudes towards food. Do we eat for comfort, as a reward, or to nourish ourselves? Do we enjoy our meals mindfully or tend to overeat?

Parents play a vital role during this formative stage. Your authentic and healthy relationship with food will likely influence your child's mindset towards food choices, setting the foundation for positive, lifelong eating habits.

Family meals should be enjoyable for everyone. You may find yourself eating certain foods more frequently as your baby develops their tastes and preferences. Perhaps you'll explore new pasta variations more often than before. And while that long-awaited sushi birthday dinner might not appeal to your little one, you can always provide alternatives. Ultimately, family meals are about finding what works best for your unique family unit.

Remember, this journey is about nurturing your child's relationship with food. Stay patient, keep offering variety, and celebrate small victories. Your positive approach will help your little one develop a healthy attitude towards eating that will serve them well throughout life.
